Howard Qin is the student of Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) principal oboist, Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra (VYSO) artistic director, and UBC professor Roger Cole and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (SSO) principal oboist and Shanghai Orchestra Academy (SOA) professor Xin Zhang.
Howard is the principal oboist in VYSO, St. George’s School Honour Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. In March 2018, he toured Europe with his school band. In November 2018, he played principal oboe in the high school musical Les Misérables. Recently in July 2021, he played in the Stanford Summer Symphony.
